Things You Should Consider Before Quitting Your Job
You are confident that you can get another job here in Singapore if you decide to quit right away. However, quitting your current job it is not easy even if you loathe everything about it. Indeed there are many job opportunities here in Singapore but you need to determine your reasons first before you really submit your resignation.
Whatever your reasons – bigger pay or flexible hours, it is imperative that you leave in good terms because you do not know when you need a recommendation. With that, it is better and safe if you leave in good terms or in good faith. Apart from leaving in good terms or faith, there are other things that you should consider before quitting your job. Here are some of the things that you should consider:
- Tell your boss first: You need to tell your boss first before you tell anyone else. No matter what relationship you share with your boss, he/she deserves to know first. You should be honest when he/she asks the reason behind it but do not give particulars (e.g complaints, accusations, grievances and many more). Do not wait for the moment when he/she will call you to confirm your resignation which he/she heard from your co-workers.
- Protect yourself: You have to protect yourself when you decide to quit. If you have a contract or agreement, make sure that you complied or accomplished it before even thinking of submitting a resignation. If you failed to consider other things, you might be sued by your present employer or worse, your new employer will be sued too.
- Get your bonus: Typically, companies give bonuses or incentives. If your company gives bonus or incentives, you have to secure it. Do not leave without it. You deserve it and you worked hard for it. Before you submit your resignation, you have to check the company policy or guidelines about your bonus or incentives.
- Look for potential employers: There are individuals who do not think of the future, do not be like them. They only think of the now which is resigning. If you decide to submit your resignation, you need to look for potential employers first. When you do this, make sure that you do not break any contract or agreement.
If you resign, make sure that you are certain or spend the rest of your life regretting the decision you made. It is important that you seek for the insights of your family so you will be guided.
