The World Building of the Year

The World Architecture Festival (WAF) is an award giving body that gives recognition to the architecture community. It is not only an award giving body for it is also an avenue where architects come together for seminars and other events. You can join and become a member of the WAF community. You will surely enjoy the status. WAF is now opening its doors for 2013 entries.

But do you have an idea of the previous winners? You should first know that there are various categories to include Award winners (the World Building of the Year, Landscape Project of the Year, etc.), Completed Buildings (Civic and Community, Culture, Display, Health, etc.) and Future Projects (Education, House, Infrastructure, etc.).

For the year 2012, the World Building Award (under the Award winners category) was given to Cooled Conservatories at Gardens by the Bay, Singapore designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects. This is an achievement. The Gardens by the Bay is the newest attraction in Singapore. It was constructed with three districts- Bay South, Bay East and Bay Central. The Cooled Conservatories are located at the center of the Bay South Garden. What made the Cooled Conservatories at Gardens by the Bay stand out? Here’s an answer:

Flower Dome

The flower dome is the new home of plants from other parts of the region. You will see many trees like Chilean Wine Palm, Wollemi Pine and many others. Not only that, the conservatory provides a display field for flower shows.

Cloud Forest

The welcoming sight of the “Cloud Mountain” with waterfall will surely awe the visitors. Cloud Forest exhibits plants and flowers.

Supertrees

Supertrees are famous not only for its plants but for its environmental technologies. At night, the Supertrees come alive with a light and music show.
