How to Treat Your Dogs Right
The moment you bring pets to your house, you have the responsibility to take care of them-for life. That means for better or for worse and in sickness or health. Unfortunately there was a father here in Singapore who was fined S$7000 because of ignoring the dog’s needs. The Shih Tzu was actually owned by his son he refused to bring it to the vet when maggots ate most of the dog’s face.
The father even planned to have the dog euthanized by sending it to the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). He saw this as an opportunity to get rid of the dog since they will move to a HBD flat. This goes to show that if you cannot take the responsibility, you shouldn’t bring a dog or a pet home in the first place. If you have a dog around, it is important that you:
- Vets: It is imperative that dogs are taken to the vet whenever they are in pain or uncomfortable. You will surely notice when they are in pain. If you see infestations, you should get treatment right away.
- Feeding: You should feed the dogs not just once a day. You ask your vet the recommended number of meals if you want just remember that it is not good to let them overeat.
- Environment: Dogs deserve a clean and loving environment. Dogs need to feel that they are loved and wanted. When the dog feels your love, they will be loyal to you come what may.
Dogs will give us many joys if we give them a chance. They are helpless and they cannot take care of their selves so it is our responsibility to provide for them. If we cannot do that, we should think twice when we consider dogs or any pets in general.
