8 Tips to Have a More Productive Day
Do you ever reach the end of the day, and feel that you haven’t accomplished a thing at all? Well, instead of worrying yourself that you haven’t succeeded in doing something, read through these tips on how you can make yourself feel better and be productive every single day.
1. Set Priorities
If you want to have a more productive day, learn to set your priorities. Don’t push yourself to multitask as it rarely works. List all the things that you should accomplish daily, and work through it in a logical order. Simultaneously performing some of your tasks will only take you longer, leaving none of them fully completed the way you want to.
2. Answer Emails
One of the first, and important, things that you should do every day is to check and answer your emails. Doing this only consumes a short amount of time so don’t put it off. If you accomplished fewer task for the rest of the day, at least you’ve managed to stay in contact with your clients and kept them updated.
3. Don’t Over-Commit
Being productive means avoiding spending your entire day agreeing and accepting deadlines that are obviously too tight for the schedule that you made. Clear your backlogged tasks first before agreeing to do things for people. Saying yes to everything, all the time, won’t help you accomplish anything in the long run.
4. Exercise Time Management
Bouncing from one task to another is one way to make yourself feel less productive at the end of the day. Create a timeframe for each of your task and focus on doing things one at a time. Set an hour to do a particular task before moving to another, and avoid getting distracted before completing it.
5. Switch Off Social Media
Switching off your social media accounts is another way to make yourself productive throughout the day. Logging in and out of Facebook, Twitter, or any other social networking site will only distract you from your task, and before you know it, the only thing you’ve done throughout the day is to scroll through your newsfeed. You’ll feel more accomplished by leaving social media until the end of the day. Also, you’ll get to post or tweet later as to how successful your day has been.
6. Don’t Panic
Keep your cool and don’t panic when you have a heavy workload. Take on your task one at time, instead of rushing it and doing it wrong. Panicking will only make you commit mistakes, your job will take longer, and you’ll end up accomplishing less.
7. Practice the 80/20 Rule
One of the most popular and truly useful tip that most successful Singaporean professionals do is practicing the 80/20 rule. If you want to have a more productive work day, always remember that 20% of your effort brings 80% of your accomplishments. Accomplish your small tasks first, then devote your time to the larger ones. It’s always better to accomplish ten small things, and make a good start on a bigger one, than spending an entire day on doing the bigger thing and still not finish it.
8. Prepare for Tomorrow
At the end of the day, make some time to assess the things that you’ve accomplished before planning out the following day of your work. Congratulate yourself on your accomplishments, and reward yourself if necessary.
